Rep.-Elect Kathy Dahlkemper

Party: Democrat
State: Pennsylvania - 3rd District
Race Results:Kathy delivered on what was predicted to be a major upset in Pennsylvania's 4th District by outing 7-term incumbent Phil English.

Kathy Dahlkemper - small business owner, non-profit executive, and mother of five - is running for Congress with unique experiences that will enable her to be an effective leader in the U.S. Congress. She decisively won a four way primary in April, but the race was expensive and now she needs funds to bring her campaign to a strong finish.

Kathy is a tough progressive who is believes that the time is long overdue to end the war in Iraq safely and responsibly and bring our troops home with “dignity and honor”.

"This war has taken an immense toll on our troops, our country and the world," said Kathy. "I have seen the effects it has had on our troops firsthand. My nephew is on his 4th tour of duty, my foster son has returned and is suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome -- and we are the lucky ones. 4000 American families have lost loved ones."

"Diplomacy is not appeasement and we need to begin to make real diplomatic efforts in Iraq and in the region. No one benefits from a chaotic Iraq. Engaging our allies in the region and throughout Europe to stabilize Iraq will benefit us all."

If elected, Kathy will support a systematic withdrawal of our troops and bring them home safely and with the honor they deserve, which included proper care upon return. Kathy believes that the government must properly fund veteran hospitals who provide the essential care for both longtime veterans, and newly returned soldiers suffering from physical and psychological wounds.

Kathy's opponent, Republican Rep. Phil English, was elected in the Republican Revolution of 1994. Since that time, English has established a strong conservative voting record, scoring just 36% on the Council's 2007 voting scorecard.

But, Pennsylvanians -- like the rest of the country -- are showing that they are tired of GOP leadership. A recent poll found Dahlkemper leading English 48-41 percent.

If elected, Kathy will bring years of relevant experience and a tough-minded, can-do attitude to Washington. She has been a long time civic leader in her community through her work as a successful small business owner and executive director of a non-profit that fosters outdoor recreation. She is the type of voice that we need in Congress as it makes tough national security decisions in the near future.
