What you need to know: Senator Casey holds a 100% rating with Council for a Livable World.
Democrat - Incumbent
Endorsed for U.S. Senate by Council for a Livable World
In a fantastic triumph in 2006, Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania ousted ultra right-wing incumbent Rick Santorum with 59% of the vote - the largest margin of victory by a Democrat in a statewide election in Pennsylvania. Council for a Livable World was an early supporter of Senator Casey’s bid for the Senate.
Senator Casey has shown his commitment to smart foreign policy and national security – during the 111th Congress Senator Casey earned a 100% rating with the Council.
"We have a solemn responsibility to do what we can to combat the threat of nuclear weapons. The Obama Administration has set forth a vision which puts American security first in pursuit of a world where terrorists cannot acquire weapons of mass destruction."
As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Casey has a key role in the foreign policy debates about the critical regions of the Middle East and South Asia. Casey was a vocal proponent and effective leader in the fight for ratification of New START nuclear reductions treaty and stated -
This New START is a renewal of America’s commitment to diminishing the threat posed by nuclear weapons and material…I believe that this New START agreement marks a responsible beginning in America’s renewed commitment to the nonproliferation treaty, to securing all fissile material within four years and will ultimately help rally international support to confront nuclear terrorism.
Recent polls show that Senator Casey is in a good position to win re-election, but the 2010 election cycle has proven that we cannot sit back and let the election play out passively. Indeed, Republicans made major political gains in Pennsylvania in 2010.
Republicans only need to win four seats to take the majority in the Senate so every seat we can protect matters.
Senator Casey has said -
We have a solemn responsibility to do what we can to combat the threat of nuclear weapons. The Obama Administration has set forth a vision which puts American security first in pursuit of a world where terrorists cannot acquire weapons of mass destruction.
We simply cannot afford to lose this effective advocate of sound nuclear weapons policies.
