Mayor, South Bend, Indiana

At this time, Pete Buttigieg has declined to answer nine of our 10 questions.

YES. We would extend New START. The current administration has indicated that it may not extend the New START agreement with Russia— the only agreement that limits Russian strategic nuclear weapons that can reach the United States. This is a serious mistake. As President, arms control would be a cornerstone of my approach to nuclear policy, unlike what we have seen under the Trump administration. Extending New START is the best immediate way to continue reducing the two largest nuclear arsenals in the world and to protect Americans from the prospect of nuclear war.
