Derek Marshall is running against incumbent Rep. Jay Obernolte (R), a former video game company owner who won against Marshall in 2022 while former President Donald Trump carried the district by 10 points.
In the top-two primary in June, Rep. Obernolte won 63% and Marshall 37%. The district is between Los Angeles and Las Vegas and used to be represented by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy before redistricting shifted the district lines.
Marshall is an organizer and a community activist who helped found a global research initiative with the United Nations and has worked extensively internationally. In the past, he was worked with Ground Game LA, was a part of successful Democratic campaigns, and played a role in Senator Bernie Sanders’ Presidential campaign in 2020.
Thanks to his time working with the UN, he understands the value of diplomacy and working with allies to minimize nuclear risks.
