Rep. Joe Neguse, whose parents fled war-torn Eritrea almost 40 years ago, was first elected to Congress in 2018, becoming the only African American person elected to serve in Congress in Colorado history. Council for a Livable World was proud to support his campaign in both 2018 and 2020. He currently represents the communities of Boulder, Fort Collins, and Summit County in Colorado’s 2nd district.
Before joining Congress, Neguse was elected to the University of Colorado Board of Regents, co-founded New Era Colorado, the state’s largest youth registration and mobilization non-profit, and served as the executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
Neguse has had a perfect voting record on Council issues during his time in office, voting to block wasteful increases to the Pentagon budget, to prohibit funding for a new ICBM, and to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
He currently serves as a Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and was elected to House Democratic Leadership as the Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. He sits on the House Judiciary Committee, the House Natural Resources Committee, and the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
