Lindsay James for House (D-IA-02)

Lindsay James is running for this open seat currently held by Rep. Ashley Hinson (R). Rep. Hinson has held this seat since 2021 and was largely a safe Republican seat due to her strength as a candidate and President Trump’s success with blue-collar voters.

James has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2019. Her current district overlaps with the congressional district.

Prior to her career in state politics, James worked as an interfaith chaplain and Presbyterian minister. She also worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Dubuque and co-founded the Loras College Peace Institute in Dubuque, Iowa.

Lindsay James faces 29-year old Joe Mitchell in the general election. Mitchell previously served in the Iowa House of Representative with James. After losing his seat in 2022, he became involved in real estate in Iowa and ultimately worked on President Trump’s transition team. He even briefly served as regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the Trump administration.

James’s campaign focuses on her bipartisan state-level record and history fighting for lower medication and housing costs. She specifically highlights her background as a pastor as a reason she always prioritizes diplomacy and opposes the use of nuclear weapons. Her work promoting peace and interfaith dialogue will make her a strong advocate for common sense nuclear arms control policy and other national security priorities aimed at fostering global stability.
