Rep. Steven Horsford (D) was elected to the House in 2018 by a 52%-44% margin against the candidate who upset him in 2014 with the endorsement of Council for a Livable World. Now Horsford is a strong candidate for re-election in a state that has trended Democratic with both Senators and the governor Democratic.
Horsford was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where he studied political science and communications. He has been CEO of the Culinary Training Academy, a job training program, and worked on the Southern Nevada Workforce Investment Board.
Horsford was elected to the Nevada Senate, representing the 4th Senate District (in Clark County) from 2005 to 2012. He was the first African-American to serve as Majority Leader of that body and was the first African American to represent Nevada in Congress. After his 2014 loss, he became a strategic communications consultant for the gaming industry.
Since re-entering Congress, he has supported the Council for a Livable World position on 13 out of 14 key votes and has been a strong supporter on nuclear arms issues.
