Congressman Andy Kim currently represents New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, one of the few across the country held by a Democrat that was also won by Donald Trump in 2020. The Congressman began this election cycle running for reelection in the House and secured Council support in that race. Now, he is running for the Senate to show that there is a better way than what the Congressman described as “cycling from crisis to crisis.” Council for a Livable World is proud to support his campaign for Senate.
Congressman Kim declared his candidacy for the Senate after incumbent Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) was indicted for the second time last September. Menendez has said he might run as an independent in this race.
Congressman Kim has dedicated his entire career to public service. As a Rhodes Scholar and leading national security expert, he previously served at the White House National Security Council, Pentagon, State Department, and in Afghanistan as a civilian strategic adviser to the Commanding General.
Congressman Kim is a trusted voice on national security and has regularly supported Council positions, boasting a perfect voting record last year. He is a member of the Armed Services Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
He was first elected in 2018 when he unseated a Republican incumbent and author of Trump’s healthcare repeal bill. Kim’s historic victory made him the first Korean American Democrat ever elected to the House of Representatives and the first Asian American from New Jersey elected to federal office.
