Cal Cunningham is running for Senate from North Carolina against the very vulnerable incumbent Senator Thom Tillis (R). Tillis managed to alienate North Carolinians of all persuasions when he published an op-ed against President Trump’s declaration of an emergency on the southern border – and then under pressure flip-flopped. As a result, Tillis has only a 33% job approval rating, and several polls show a close race between Cunningham and Tillis.
North Carolina is now a swing state with a recently elected a Democratic governor, and a court-ordered redistricting is expected to add two Democratic House seats.
Cal Cunningham is an Army veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, business leader and former legislator. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, Cunningham volunteered to join the U.S. Army Reserve and has since served three active duty tours, including overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the prestigious General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award.
At the age of 27, Cal was elected one of the state’s youngest State Senators. He ran unsuccessfully for Senate in 2010, worked for nationally-recognized environmental services and waste reduction company and now is back with a strong campaign for Senate in 2020.
He opposes the new low-yield nuclear weapon and supports the U.S. re-entering the Iran nuclear deal.
