Sen. Elizabeth Warren was first elected in 2012 with Council for a Livable World’s support after defeating incumbent Sen. Scott Brown (R). She was the only candidate that year to oust an incumbent Senator. The Council also supported her reelection in 2018 as Sen. Warren has been a champion on our issues in the Senate.
Sen. Warren is a key member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, where she serves as chair of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel, championing principled military spending and pushing back against expansion of U.S. nuclear forces. This year, she voted in the committee against passing the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Act, which exceeded the congressionally approved defense spending cap by about $25 billion. She also previously authored one-sentence legislation with a simple concept: The United States will not start a nuclear war.
Senator Warren also serves on the Committees on Finance, Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and Committee on Aging.
Previously, she was a Harvard Law Professor and the architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
She faces multiple Republican challengers, but her November opponent won’t be selected until the September primary.
