Jeanne Shaheen is a history maker: she is the first woman in U.S. history to serve as Governor and U.S. Senator. Council for a Livable World has endorsed her in each of her Senate campaigns.
She currently serves on both the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee, and is the only woman on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
She was a strong supporter of President Obama’s New START Treaty to reduce Russian and American nuclear weapons arsenals. She voted for the Iran nuclear agreement, and has demanded congressional action before any new military action against Iran. This year, she has supported amendments to limit Trump nuclear weapons programs.
Senator Shaheen could face a tough race. New Hampshire politics have been some of the most volatile in the nation, as the state has alternated for more than the past decade between the two parties. Hillary Clinton captured the state by fewer than 3,000 votes and it will be a presidential battleground in 2020.
