Nuclear weapons are a climate issue, an economic issue, a women’s issue, a democracy issue, a public health issue, a humanitarian issue, a justice issue, a security issue and a political issue. Thankfully, nuclear weapons are also a fixable issue.
It’s easy to look at the threats posed by the most destructive weapons on earth and assume there is nothing you can do. But you can do something — in fact, the biggest successes in nuclear risk reduction were driven by people just like you demanding that their leaders step back from the nuclear brink. And in this moment, momentum is on our side.
Actions from people like you have helped reduce the global nuclear arsenal from about 70,000 weapons at the height of the Cold War to about 12,000 today. That’s tremendous progress, but we still have work to do. With your help, we can finish the job.
Your actions today — sending quick emails we’ve already drafted for you to Congress, following us on social media, learning more about our issues and discussing them with friends, and donating to us and our endorsed candidates — can help prevent a new nuclear arms race and avoid nuclear war.
For more than 60 years, people like you have supported our endorsed candidates and our advocacy on Capitol Hill, leading to major nuclear arms reduction treaties that have helped bring the world back from the brink.
Since 1962, we’ve endorsed and helped elect more than 400 Members of Congress — Democrats, Republicans and Independents — who have fought to constrain unnecessary Pentagon spending, vote in favor of agreements to limit nuclear threats and arsenals, and support a diplomacy-first foreign policy.
Together, we can keep going. We can push for renewed arms control talks and treaties. We can push for smart policies to reduce nuclear risks. We can finish this job.
