In Kentucky, Secretary of /State Trey Grayson (R) officially launched his campaign for Senate. He is the heir apparent for the Republicans to replace Sen. Jim Bunning (R), although he may face a Republican primary challenger. There are also two serious Democratic contenders:L t. Gov. Dan Mongiardo (D) and state Attorney General Jack Conway (D).
In Louisiana, after a formal announcement foreshadowed weeks ago, U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon (D) is expected to be a serious contender against Sen. David Vitter (R). Melancon is no liberal, declaring in a web video that he is pro-gun and pro-life.
