Senate elections match-ups decided

After primaries last evening and last week, we now have a better idea about the general election Senate lineup.

Council for a Livable World is backing three excellent recent primary winners — all national security progressives who support diplomacy over force and can win. Will you contribute to their campaigns and help lead them to victory in the general election?

Wisconsin: Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D) finally knows who her November opponent is: State Senator Leah Vukmir, who survived a bitter battle in the Republican primary 49%-43% between two candidates fighting over who was more loyal to President Trump. Hawkish groups weren’t waiting for the primary results, and have already spent over $10 million to defeat the incumbent. Baldwin is favored, but her opponents are throwing the kitchen sink against her.

Minnesota: Sen. Tina Smith (D), appointed to the Senate earlier this year, easily survived a primary yesterday with 76% of the vote against a Republican-turned-Democrat, and now faces State Senator Karin Housley (R), who captured the GOP nomination with 62%. Smith is a strong progressive who has opposed President Trump’s new “low-yield” nuclear weapon.

Michigan: Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D), who was unopposed in the primary, will run against 100% Trump devotee, national security consultant and veteran John James in the general election, who won his primary with 55% of the vote. President Trump recently traveled to the state to attack the incumbent, who strongly backed the Iran nuclear agreement.

All three incumbents are ahead, but victory is not assured for any of them. Will you help bring them to victory?
