Center,
We are often asked why people should care about races in other states and districts, and how people can help candidates in other districts. The answer is simple: no mid-term election in my lifetime has mattered more, so no matter where you live, you can help.
Right now, there is little to block President Trump from building new nuclear weapons and blindly increasing the Pentagon budget with no accountability.
But in 2019, a majority of national security progressives in the House and/or Senate can limit further damage by the executive branch.
When nuclear physicist-turned-activist Leo Szilard founded Council for a Livable World in 1962, he understood that a donor in Boston or New York or San Francisco can contribute to candidates in Des Moines or Missoula or Birmingham. And not just donate: people can join telephone banks from their own home, canvass in other districts, and encourage voter registration and turnout.
He also understood that a Senator from Montana or Maine has as much power as a Senator from Massachusetts.
So no matter where you live, you can make a difference.
Will you help these four candidates in must-win races in California, Colorado, Minnesota and Texas?
Thank you for all you do across the country.
Sincerely,
John Tierney
Executive Director
Council for a Livable World
Member of Congress (former) 1/3/1997–1/3/2015
