Washington DC – June 11, 2014 – News Release – Council for a Livable World has proudly announced that it has raised more than $1 million for Congressional candidates who share the Council’s vision for a safer and more secure world.
“We are proud to have raised more than a million dollars in support of current and future members of the House and Senate who believe in a common sense national security strategy that will make America and the world safer, said Executive Director John Isaacs. “Together, these Senators and Representatives will be able to advance sensible policies to encourage diplomacy, prevent nuclear terrorism, reduce spending on Cold War relics and invest in a stronger and more strategic Pentagon.
The Council leverages an extensive and diverse network of supporters through direct mail and digital fundraising.
“As campaigns and fundraising have moved more and more into the digital space, we’ve worked to cultivate a new generation of supporters through social media and a robust email campaign, said Usha Sahay, Director of Digital Outreach. “We’re seeing a lot of grassroots enthusiasm about the progressive candidates we’ve endorsed, and the million dollars we’ve raised is a testament to that momentum.
This is the earliest point in the election cycle that the Council has reached the $1 million milestone. In the 2012 cycle, the Council raised a total of $2.1 million for its endorsed candidates. During that cycle, seventeen of the Council’s twenty endorsed candidates won election or re-election.
“A founding principle of the Council was to endorse candidates who shared the organization’s vision for a safer and more secure world, but who could also win on Election Day. In every race the Council supports, we seek to find winning candidates with a forward-thinking national security perspective, added spokesman James Lewis. “It’s a system that has worked for more than fifty years. Since our founding, we have helped elect 133 U.S. Senators and 226 U.S. Representatives.
