H/T to several upstate New York blogs for pointing this one out (it’s also now been covered by Daily Kos and The Hill).
Looks like we got another one joining the “they said what?!?!” Republicans, right up there with let’s-bring-back-McCarthyism-Bachman.
Upstate New York Representative Randy Kuhl said he “firmly believe[s] the Democratic majority wants the American public to suffer and to hurt so that they can make some political gains at election time.”
Say what Sen. Kuhl? Are you sure you didn’t have your words mixed around? The way I look at it, the past 8 years of Bush policies, not Democratic policies, have made Americans suffer. The over $750 billion we’ve spent on the Iraq war and the estimated $3 TRILLION the Iraq war is projected to cost us long term will likely make us suffer even more. Check out the video below.
Massa was a congressional staffer on the House Armed Services Committee before the Iraq war began. As a committee staffer, Massa opposed the invasion of Iraq, writing several dissenting papers against the plan to attack. When the invasion was authorized, Massa resigned in protest, and joined the presidential campaign of his mentor, Gen. Wesley Clark.
Latest polls show Massa about 7 points ahead of Kuhl.
