Is Texas turning?

Center,

In recent years, there have been signs that the politics in my home state of Texas are changing — and that’s something we should all be excited about!

This year, the signals are flashing bright purple. A number of great challengers have put together terrific campaigns in terms of organization, endorsements and fundraising. Two candidates endorsed by Council for a Livable World are doing particularly well.

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D), Senate candidate, turned in another blockbuster fundraising quarter and outraised incumbent Senator Ted Cruz (R) by more than double. He is running a grassroots, people-powered campaign that has taken him to all 254 counties in Texas. A member of the key Armed Services Committee that oversees nuclear weapons, he supported the Iran nuclear agreement and opposed amendments to reduce funding for the New START treaty.

Challenger Colin Allred (D) topped the fundraising of District 32 incumbent and long-time hawk Rep. Pete Sessions (R) in the last quarter by about 16%. The district voted for Mitt Romney in 2012 by 15 points and Hillary Clinton by two points in 2016. The Dallas native is a professional football player-turned civil rights attorney who led the Texas voter protection program. He is a strong supporter of progressive national security policies.

Can you help turn Texas in a new direction that can counter President Trump’s dangerous national security policies, most recently seen in his disastrous press conference with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki?

Join the campaign; please support both candidates!
