The Iowa Results Are In

Late last night, Senator Ted Cruz was declared the Republican winner of the Iowa Caucus, the first step to becoming the Republican nominee for president. Donald Trump finished second and Senator Marco Rubio was close behind in third.

  • For his part, Cruz has promised to rip the Iran Deal “to shreds” and proposes “carpet bombing” terrorist groups embedded in civilian populations to “see if sand can glow in the dark.”
  • Trump has called the Iran deal “disgraceful” and “an embarrassment to our country.” He’s even insulted prisoners of war, and promises to increase the defense budget drastically.
  • Rubio, easily one of the most hawkish presidential candidates in recent history, has said he “absolutely” supports spending up to $1 trillion on nuclear weapons modernization.

Now more than ever, we need to elect progressive members of Congress to ensure sensible national security policies and to counter the possibility of a President Cruz, Trump, or Rubio.

Council for a Livable World’s endorsed House and Senate candidates believe in the power of diplomacy and the need for a reduced U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal.

Do your part to show that not all Americans support radical GOP candidates like Cruz, Trump, and Rubio. Make a donation to our endorsed candidates help us elect a progressive, forward-thinking Congress in 2016.

With your help, we can send Council-endorsed candidates to Congress and counteract the backwards and dangerous national security priorities of the Republican frontrunners.
