Council for a Livable World, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious organizations devoted to national security issues, today announced the selection of former Colorado Senator Gary Hart as its chairman.

In an analysis released today, the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation suggested that the much-anticipated report from James Baker and Lee Hamilton’s Iraq Study Group (ISG) has the greatest potential to produce a changed Iraq policy since 2002.

Republicans have aired several deceptive television ads in at least four states attacking candidates endorsed by Council for a Livable World. Fighting fire with fire, the Council has created its own ad, calling out the Republicans for their attempt to distract voters before the November 7 elections.

The Council for a Livable World today described Republican efforts to lay the blame for the growing threat from North Korea’s nuclear weapon program on the Clinton Administration as a “desperate maneuver by a failed Administration.�
