Washington D.C.—Council for a Livable World has announced its endorsement of Hawaii Representative Mazie Hirono for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Sen. Daniel Akaka.
Hirono has received a 90% score on the Council for a Livable World voting record.
“We are excited to endorse Rep. Mazie Hirono for the Senate—we hope that our early endorsement will help her against primary opponent former Rep. Ed Case, says Council for a Livable World Executive Director John Isaacs.
If elected, Hirono will not only be the first woman Senator from Hawaii but also the first Asian-American woman elected to the Senate. She is a member of the Progressive Caucus and excellent on Council for a Livable World issues.
Council for a Livable World hopes to bolster her fundraising efforts to help ensure that she is elected in 2012. “In this tumultuous time in Congress—we hope that we can beat back the conservative tide by helping to elect another progressive advocate on foreign policy issues, continued Isaacs.
