Council board member Daniel Wirls, a professor at University of California – Santa Cruz, was quoted in a Military.com piece about the US’s aircraft-carrier abilities. In response to Republican Presidential candidate, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, arguing for an increase of ships in the Navy fleet:
“We and our allies are the only people with serious aircraft-carrier ability. You can have as many ships in the water as you want, but if we can reach their ships and they can’t reach ours, nothing else really matters.”
