Council Announces Endorsement of Sen. Frank Lautenberg for Re-Election: Iraq War Position Important Factor

Council for a Livable World today announced its endorsement of Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) for reelection to the U.S. Senate. Lautenberg is facing a primary challenge from Congressman Rob Andrews (D-NJ), who enthusiastically supported the Iraq War.

Fearing Congressional Opposition, Bush May Back Down on Binding Long-Term Security Commitment to Iraq

In a setback to President Bush’s unprecedented expansion of executive power, it appears that the White House may back off its effort to negotiate a binding, long-term bilateral agreement with Iraq that would include a security commitment to defend the country from external threats.

Bush Vows to Ignore Congressional Prohibition on Permanent U.S. Bases in Iraq

Council for a Livable World today strongly condemned President Bush for issuing a signing statement with the Defense Authorization bill that announced his intention to ignore the bill’s prohibition on funding the establishment of permanent U.S. military bases in Iraq.
