When we talk about our Senate candidates, we throw around the word “progressive” a lot. What we really mean is, when it comes to national security, our candidates have an eye to the future instead of being stuck in ways of the past.

Take Alison Lundergan Grimes and Mark Udall as perfect examples.

In the Monday night debate, we watched Alison Lundergan Grimes (D-KY) encapsulate her race against Mitch McConnell in a few words:

“Senator of the past versus senator of the future.”

Alison is truly the future of US national security, complete with a fresh slate of ideas for Washington and a vision for a nuclear weapons-free world.

And so is Mark Udall.

In two Colorado debates over the past week, we watched Senator Udall (D-CO) remind the nation why he’s a leader on national security. He sits on the Senate Committee on Armed Services, chairs the Strategic Forces Subcommittee, and has a perfect track record for voting on progressive policies.

These candidates point the way forward in dealing with a dangerous world–but they haven’t won yet. Please pitch in with a small donation to help their campaigns.

In the weeks leading up to the election, campaign efforts start to focus on one thing: getting voters to cast their ballots. That’s why we reached out to a number of our endorsed Senate candidates this week to see where our supporters could donate their time to help Get Out the Vote.

If you were to believe The Washington Post Election Lab – and I would advise against it — the Senate elections are just about over. The Post says Republicans have a 94% chance of taking the Senate.

Stan Greenberg and James Carville of Democracy Corps just announced that, “Democrats are more likely to hold control of the U.S. Senate than not.”
